How to deal with dog constipation .

Dogs are man’s best friend and this ensures that the owner of the dog takes good care of their dogs. There are times that dogs experience bad health times just like human beings do. Constipation is one of the things that everyone has to deal with at one time or another. This also applies to the dogs, which is a very unfortunate thing since dogs can not talk and explain what is happening to them. However, as the owner you should know what problem the dog is experiencing. The dogs usually experience constipation due to lack of good exercise and also poor eating diets may cause dog constipation. This condition requires one to know how to deal with it so that they can ensure that their dog is at ease.

If the dog is experiencing constipation due to lack of proper diet or due to lack of exercise, then one needs to add one or two teaspoon more bran to his meals. This is basically meant to allow added moisture in his stool so that it may be easier for him to take it out. If this is done in the appropriate way, the constipation is most likely to be alleviated within no time and the dog should be back to normal.

Another way to deal with constipation in dogs is by softening the stool by adding psyllium which is also referred to as Metamucil to the dog’s diet. If this is added twice a day in half a teaspoon, and at the same time the dog drinks a lot of water then the problem will be alleviated. Mineral oil can also be used in cases where there is a large hard stool build up. This should be done in a way that two teaspoonfuls of the mineral oil to be added to the dog’s meal for only a week so that it can help in softening the stool so that the dog can find it easy to release himself.

One can also add some water in the dog’s food so that his food can be moist. This is yet another home remedy that is used to stop dog constipation. Some meat which is raw and also some vegetables can also be added to the dog’s diet especially if the dog is getting old. This will allow him deal with constipation since these two things helps the stomach to process food better.

It is good to ensure that you keep your dog well groomed because things like long hair usually causes the feces to get entangled which leads to the dog constipating. It is commonly known that dogs usually eat anything that comes their way especially when they are angry. This means that when the dog has gone for their long call, one should look to ensure that all the bones that they could have swallowed are ingested so that they can avoid constipation.
